The McKendree University Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program focuses on real world educational activities which allow students to develop problem solving and team building skills in a collaborative environment. MAED courses help teachers meet their state mandated recertification requirements and, for some, achieve additional endorsements in principalship, driver’s education, special education, middle school, or reading. Course work provides non-tenured teachers the opportunity to move from the initial to the standard certificate in the state of Illinois. The MAED degree also enables teacher candidates to increase their own salary potential as they move across the salary schedule. For working professionals not currently certified in the State of Illinois, the MAED offers numerous tracks to initial teacher certification. Elementary, Secondary, and Special Education certification are available through the Master's program. Prospective students with an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution are eligible for the MAED in Teacher Certification program.
McKendree University offers courses for both on-campus and off-campus students at 20 sites throughout the state of Illinois. Classes are held on the Lebanon campus for all the programs and off-campus in a cohort format for the MAED - Educational Administration & Leadership, MAED - Teacher Leadership (Development), Reading Endorsement, and Middle School Endorsement.
