University Profile

McKendree University is a private liberal arts college located on a beautiful campus in Lebanon, Illinois.  Founded in 1828, approximately 1,400 undergraduate students currently attend McKendree’s main campus and over 800 graduate students are currently enrolled in our master’s programs.  Students come from approximately 22 different states and 19 countries.

McKendree University is frequently recognized for its quality academic programs and excellent faculty and staff.  McKendree is consistently ranked in U.S. News and World Reports, and for the last 2 years has been ranked in the top 14% of comprehensive colleges for undergraduate study in the nation.  In the 2008 edition our Midwest ranking jumped from 23rd to 18th.  McKendree is also the only Illinois college and only St. Louis area college in the Baccalaureate’s category to earn a U.S. News and World Report’s “Great Schools, Great Prices” ranking.

The Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the many other academic honor societies, the New Student Orientation Program, First-Year Experience Program, Honors Program, and the Champion of Character Athlete Awards are a few programs which highlight our efforts in developing a strong work ethic within our students and encouraging them to strive to do their best in all aspects of college.

McKendree University has always encouraged students to recognize and act on their responsibility to the educational community, the local community, and the wider society, both nationally and globally.  Many scholarships, in fact, require a minimum number of community service hours.  Approximately 70% of our on-campus students participate in community service.
