1)         Career Services Web Page – Career Services invites you to visit our web page for a wealth of information.  The site includes College Central Network (online job postings and resume database) and the Bearcat Job Finder (where current position openings can be found); online career assessment tools; the Vault system (4,000+ company profiles, 3,000 career advice articles, industry and occupational profiles, and password protected insider information); a listing of the career fair dates and times for the current year; links to various job resource sites on the Internet; sample interview questions; information on majors and graduate schools; and various other resources.  To access these resources, go to www.mckendree.edu/careerservices.

           

2)         Career Counseling & Testing - Students having difficulty choosing a major or minor field are encouraged to schedule an appointment with Career Services.  Students are also encouraged to complete online assessments on our website to further assist with the decision-making process, and then discuss the results with us.

 

3)         Resume/Cover Letter Assistance – The Career Services staff assists students by checking resumes, cover letters, and other job search related materials for proper grammar, format, and content. 

 

4)         College Central Network System – Employers look for candidates at various times throughout the year for position vacancies with their company/organization, and will search our online database for resumes.  There is also a mentoring component to this system, which will allow you to network with alumni.  This resource can be accessed through the Career Services web page.  Please see Career Services for more information about this on-line system that is available to all of our students and alumni.

 

5)         Part-Time and Full-Time Jobs – Please see Career Services for a listing of employers, dates, and times of interviews.  Employment opportunities are also posted on our web pages and the Boards outside of our office in Clark Hall.  Please see Admission for more information regarding Federal Work Study positions.

 

6)         Mock Interview Sessions – Career Services offers you the opportunity to participate in these sessions so that you are better prepared for interviews.  We also have interview question handouts to further prepare you.

 

7)         Internship Program – Our internship program allows students who have senior standing and meet certain GPA requirements to apply classroom theory and knowledge in a company/organization.  Students receive academic credit for the internship program, and must meet with Career Services to begin the process.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

 

8)         Career Resource Center – This room is located next to our office, and contains books on resume writing, cover letter writing, interviewing, the job search, and graduate school, along with other resources.

 

9)         Job Fairs – Career Services sponsors/co-sponsors several career fairs every year.  Our campus career fair is held every February, and we will have information on other upcoming career fairs in our office and on our web page.

 

10)        Workshops – Our office presents workshops on various topics in all levels of classes.  We also sponsor a dining etiquette seminar, employer panels, and a Career Conference which have proven to be very useful for interviews and other professional events.
