Shifting

What's more fun than working in the Library?

Absolutely NOTHING! ... just ask Katie, Alicia, Amanda, Danielle & Nick

SHIFTING

We, the Holman Library faculty, would like to publicly thank these fine McKendree students for their work the last few weeks of the semester on a special project, shifting and realigning the book collection on the second floor and the children’s book collection in the basement.

Why is this important?

We alerted you in the past school year that our collections had grown too big for our physical space. Our shelves were jammed with books to the top of the ranges. This is not safe, especially in an earthquake prone area, and puts undue structural stress on the shelving.
With the help and support of many faculty members, we began an extensive review of the collections from A (general) – N (the arts), discarding books along the way.

Our basement mold problem took all the fun out of using our juvenile collection last year. Locating materials was a nightmare. Now, the books have been inventoried and placed in proper order.

All of the empty shelves were waiting to be shifted and realigned once the school year was completed. Now, we have created a new oversize book section and almost all of the books from section A – N have been restored.

How does this affect you?

You can find books again, easily! You’ll feel much safer taking books down from the shelves, even along the top! The shelves are cleaner and allow more light in. No longer are books
tightly jammed.

Thank you to all of our student workers for your willingness to take on a significant task.
We couldn’t have done it without you.
