Why did you come to McKendree?
There are a number of reasons why I chose to attend McKendree. I wanted to find a small college close to home with a small student-to-teacher ratio. I didn't want to go to some place where I would be just a number and where the professors wouldn't remember my name. Another reason is because of McKendree's reputation as a great school. I was impressed when I heard the school has been named repeatedly in U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Colleges" and that it is one of the top colleges in the nation. Also, I liked the atmosphere of the university. On my first few visits to the campus, I was struck by how everyone I met was so friendly and down-to-earth.
Favorite part of McKendree?
My favorite part about McKendree is the relationships I have built with my classmates and professors, as well as members of the various offices on campus. I may have a bad day, but there is always someone who will cheer me up and make me laugh. I've also grown very close to the secretary I work for; I can tell her anything. I have made so many friends here, and that is what I love best about McKendree.
Why do you encourage other students to come here?
Like I said, McKendree is a great place to build lasting relationships. It also has a lot to offer. There are various activities and organizations on campus, something for everyone. The Hett always features something--or someone--interesting or entertaining there, whether it is a concert, a play, or a renowned speaker.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
Since my freshman year, I have been involved in the Alpha Omega Society, which is a sorority that focuses on building friendships between its members, as well as doing community service. I am also a member of the McKendree Historical Society/Phi Alpha Theta, and Sigma Tau Delta. On Thursdays, I volunteer at the Haven After-School Program in the Lebanon Methodist Church. Also, I have been involved in Concert Choir nearly every semester. This year, I plan to get involved with the Literary Interest Society.
